Our Community Pilot Project to Lower Energy Bills
We are starting work with a small group of about 60 homes as a pilot for intensive community support to electrify during the coming year. We hope this can become a template for neighborhood groups across the City of Yarra.
Our aim in this project is to dramatically reduce household energy bills for approximately 60 homes in a small zone in North Fitzroy. The area has an established street group. We will document the experience as a template for wider adoption in the City of Yarra.
We will report our results by the end of the year and plan to create a guide for similar community based projects in the City of Yarra to replicate our success.
In the coming months we will be working with renters and owners to
Establish a baseline of current household appliances, transport and energy sources and costs
Plan and prioritise adoption of efficient electric appliances, getting off gas and improving thermal efficiency
Provide assistance with input on quotes, suppliers, lessons learned and connections with neighbours who have already electrified and can share their experience
As the project progresses, report on progress and document the impact of our work.
If your street has an established chat group such as Signal, WhatsApp or other network and is interested in getting involved in a similar electrification project in future, let us know and we will be in touch.
